Meppen - july 12
Initial plan for the day was to go to schoonebeek but with rain forecasted and apparently no hotels there, called an audible and planned to push 40km to Saturday and set off on shorter 60km ride to Meppen. But the rain held off and wind turbines facing east (tailwind!), decided to do an even longer day to coevorden. It's kinda fun not having an itinerary and so far, no problem getting a decent, reasonably priced (under $100) hotel. Farms (of many varieties), some small towns, good roadside path and rain free morning. Sat out some rain in a roadside shelter with some Aussies riding from paris to Copenhagen. Found a good bakery and got some more miles in, then simultaneous thunder and lightning just past Meppen had me find shelter again and regretting my 2nd change of plan, had to turn backwards to the Hotel Poker! 43 miles and now i got wet shoes.
